Why sealed pavers outlast bare ones

Unsealed pavers are sponges. They drink in irrigation water, oil drips and tannin from leaves, and the joint sand washes a little further out with every storm. Sealing closes the surface: stains wipe off instead of soaking in, color stops fading, and hardened joints keep weeds from ever rooting.
