Paver Sealing 101: Is the Wet-Look Worth It?

Pavers look incredible when they go in. A few Florida summers later, the color's faded, weeds are creeping through the joints, and oil spots have set in. Sealing is how you stop all of that — and it's one of the highest-impact things you can do for a patio, pool deck or driveway.

What sealing actually does

• Locks in color and brings back that rich, just-installed look
• Stabilizes the joint sand so it stops washing out in storms
• Blocks weeds and ants from pushing up between the pavers
• Resists stains — oil, leaves and spills wipe off instead of soaking in
• Makes future cleaning easier, since grime sits on top rather than in the stone

Matte vs. wet-look — what's the difference?

A matte (natural) sealer protects the pavers while keeping their original, dry appearance. A wet-look sealer adds a richer, slightly glossy finish that makes colors pop, like the surface is permanently just-rained-on. It's purely a style call — both protect the same way. Most homeowners who want that "wow" finish go wet-look on patios and pool decks.

The process we follow

• Deep clean the pavers to pull out dirt, algae and old stains
• Re-sand the joints with fresh polymeric sand for a stable, weed-resistant base
• Let everything dry and cure fully — sealing damp pavers is the #1 mistake
• Apply the sealer evenly in the finish you chose

How often should you reseal?

In Central Florida's sun and rain, plan to reseal every 2–3 years. You'll know it's time when water stops beading on the surface and the color starts looking flat again.

So — is it worth it?

For almost everyone, yes. Sealing protects an investment you already paid good money for, keeps it looking new far longer, and saves you fighting weeds and stains every season. If you want the wet-look, you also get a finish that genuinely turns heads.
